Arsenal win the north London derby

On Sunday, Arsenal came from behind to win 2-1 in the north London derby to put a dent in Spurs’ hopes for a top-four finish. An eye-catching rabona finish from first-half substitute Erik Lamela gave the visitors a lead against the run of play. But goals from Martin Odegaard and a penalty from Alexandre Lacazette ensured a hard-fought win for the Gunners. They moved level on points with Aston Villa, who could only manage a 1-1 draw away to Newcastle United.

Later that evening, Manchester United produced a drab performance against high-flying West Ham United. An own goal from Craig Dawson early in the second half was enough to secure a win for the hosts, who climbed back to second and reduced the gap to 14 points with a game in hand. The highlight of the day arguably was Leicester City’s 5-0 thrashing of seemingly relegated Sheffield United. Kelechi Iheanacho’s well taken hat-trick the star of the show as Brendan Rodger’s men showed they can cope with injuries and avoid slip-ups like last season.

Manchester City continue winning ways

Chelsea were rather unexpectedly held to a goalless draw against bitter rivals Leeds United in Saturday’s early kick-off . However, later that day, Everton failed to capitalize as they suffered a shocking loss at home to Burnley. Dwight McNeil’s long-range effort the highlight in a 2-1 win for the visitors. The win sees Burnley move ever closer to survival. The form team in the survival battle Fulham were thrashed by the would-be Champions. Scott Parker’s men defended resolutely in the first half, but imploded as soon as the second half began. Goals from John Stones, Gabriel Jesus and most notably Sergio Aguero gave Man City a comfortable 3-0 win. This was Aguero’s first goal in the Premier League since January 2020.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace secured a 1-0 home win against West Bromwich Albion thanks to a Luka Milivojevic penalty. Brighton also picked up crucial three points away at St. Mary’s on Sunday. Lewis Dunk and Leandro Trossard scored the goals in a 2-1 win for the Seagulls.
