Manchester United’s strongest line-up with Cristiano Ronaldo in

Is Cristiano Ronaldo the final piece in the jigsaw for Manchester United? They had already filled all the voids in their squad in the transfer window, now the addition of Ronaldo makes them genuine contenders. But where will Ronaldo play? Let’s see United’s strongest line-up with him in the team.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Goalkeeper: David de Gea

Man United have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to goalkeepers. However, on top form, none of them are better than the Spaniard. He should be the no. 1 keeper without doubt.

Right-back: Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The former Crystal Palace man is the undisputed option given the dearth of choices in that position. He is solid defensively and is slowly improving his offensive game too.

Centre-backs: Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has come under a lot of criticism given he is the most expensive defender in history. However, he is a solid defender and makes up for his lack of pace.

His centre-back partner has often let him down in the past seasons, but with the signing of Raphael Varane, they have sorted that out. The Frenchman brings quality and bags of experience at the very top level.

Left-back: Luke Shaw

The arrival of Alex Telles last season threatened Luke Shaw’s game-time. But the England international has worked hard and made himself a key cog in the machine. He also enjoyed a fruitful EURO campaign with England.

Centre Defensive-Mids: Fred and Scott McTominay

This is perhaps one area where some United fans feel an upgrade is required, but both Fred and McTominay are more than decent players. Both are hardworking individuals and the best in their positions in the team. They do have Nemanja Matic also but he is way past his prime now.

Left-Mid: Paul Pogba

Now this is a controversial one, but hear me out. You would say play him alongside either Fred or McTominay, but there’s a problem in that. Pogba loves going forward and doesn’t track back, often leaving spaces in behind. Against Leeds United, he played on the left wing and bagged four assists. That at the moment appears his most favorable position and you have to get the best out of one of your best players.

Centre Attacking-Mid: Bruno Fernandes

This one is a no-brainer really. He is single-handedly responsible for United’s current predicament and it’s hard to imagine where they would be without him. Ronaldo will obviously steal the limelight but his contribution can’t be forgotten.

Right-Mid: Mason Greenwood

Another controversial pick given the arrival of Jadon Sancho. While Sancho might be the obvious option, at the moment, Greenwood is in top form. His goals have kept United’s head above water and there’s a lot to come from him in the future.

Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo

Had to be. He may be 36, but he’s still Cristiano Ronaldo. 12 years ago he may have been a winger, but now he is a complete forward who can play anywhere across the frontline. Above all, he brings lots of goals. With so much talent to support him, he could thrive and light up the Premier League once again.

It’s a shame the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani don’t make this team. Well that speaks of the quality and depth of United’s squad. These players are capable replacements should they be called upon.
