Man Utd won’t want to be reminded of the reverse fixture

It’s Jose Mourinho vs Man Utd again! Last time he managed to inflict a humiliating 6-1 loss on the Red Devils. This time, he’ll be looking to end Manchester United’s 22-match unbeaten run away from home in the Premier League. Tottenham vs Manchester United: Head-to-Head

Unfortunately, this doesn’t make for pleasurable reading for Spurs fans. In 2001, Manchester United came from 3-0 down at half-time to beat Spurs 5-3 at White Hart Lane. Since then, Man Utd have lost just thrice away from home to Spurs.

Opta Stats

  • Having beaten Manchester United 6-1 earlier this season, Spurs are looking to record their first league double over the Red Devils since the 1989-90 season under Terry Venables.
  • The record for goals scored against Manchester United by an opponent in a Premier League season is seven, achieved by four clubs. The last team to score more than seven in a top-flight season were Spurs in 1962-63 (8), while the last team to hit double figures were Aston Villa and Newcastle during 1930-31 (11 each).
  • Spurs could become the first team to record a Premier League double over Man Utd since Man City in 2018-19, while they could be the first side to do so against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man Utd side. The last team to do a league double over Solskjaer were Ranheim against Molde in the 2018 Norwegian Eliteserien.
  • Tottenham have failed to win a league-high six Premier League matches this season in which they were leading at half-time, with Spurs going on to draw all six such games.
  • Manchester United are unbeaten in each of their last 22 Premier League away games (W14 D8) – only Arsenal between August 2001-September 2002 (23 games) and April 2003-September 2004 (27 games) have registered longer such away runs in English top-flight history.

Team News

For Spurs, full-back duo Ben Davies (ankle) and Matt Doherty (muscle) will be missing. Other than that, there are no injury concerns for Mourinho.

For Manchester United, Marcus Rashford (ankle) and Luke Shaw (unspecified) are doubts, while Anthony Martial (knee), Phil Jones (knee) and Eric Bailly (covid-19) are ruled out.

Prediction

You just don’t know what to expect from both these teams. They can be so good on their days but those days are rare. Somehow, United do pick up results and more so on their travels, which is why I am predicting an away win. The visitors start poorly and grow into games, while Spurs tend to throw away games late on. A perfect recipe for a trademark Manchester United come-from-behind win.

Prediction: Spurs 1-2 Manchester United
