Sergio Agüero will be leaving Manchester City after 10 trophy-laden years; the club have confirmed. During his time at the club, he established himself as a Manchester City legend and one of the greatest strikers the league has ever seen.
During his time, he absolutely lit up the Premier League. He is responsible for the most epic conclusion ever to a title race. He can score goals from either foot and from anywhere in and around the box. Agüero is a clinical finisher and barring the last year or so, has been a model of consistency throughout his Man City career.
I am here to have a look at some mind-blowing statistics of his time at England. Let us start with the silverware he has won.
Agüero is…
- A 4x Premier League winner: 2011-12, 2013-14, 2017-18, 2018-19 (on the verge of 2020-21 as well)
- A 1x FA Cup winner: 2012-13
- A 5x EFL Cup winner: 2013-14, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20
- A 1x Premier League Golden Boot winner: 2014-15
- A 7x Premier League Player of the Month winner: Oct 2013, Nov 2014, Jan 2016, April 2016, Jan 2018, Feb 2019, Jan 2020
This year could also be the year when he finally gets his hands on the Champion’s League trophy (what a fairytale ending that will be for him and City!). His team faces Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals and are strong favorites to go all the way.
The Stats
- Agüero is Manchester City’s all-time top scorer, with 257 goals in just 384 appearances. Narrowing it down to the Premier League, he has 181 goals in 271 appearances. In November 2017, Agüero scored goal no. 178 for Man City to surpass Eric Brooks as City’s record goalscorer.
- With 181 goals, Agüero is the fourth highest goalscorer in Premier League history. Only Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole are ahead of him.
- Agüero averages a goal every 108 minutes in the Premier League. No other player to have scored at least 100 goals in the competition can boast a better minutes-per-goal ratio.
- Only Wayne Rooney (183) has scored more goals for a single club than Agüero. He needs three goals and has until the end of the season to break that record.
- Agüero is the highest scoring overseas player in Premier League history. In January 2020, he scored a hattrick in a 6-1 win at Aston Villa, surpassing Thierry Henry’s tally of 175 goals in the process.
- By scoring that hattrick, Agüero also broke Alan Shearer’s record of 11 hattricks. No player in Premier League history can match Aguero’s tally of 12 hattricks.
- The club breathing a sigh of relief will be Newcastle. Agüero scored 15 in 11 appearances against them in the Premier League; against no other team did he score more in the competition.
- In October 2015, Agüero scored five in a 6-1 home win against Newcastle United. Only four other players (Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Jermain Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov) have ever scored five in a single match in the Premier League.
